Express Yourself! Contest WINNERS!

Thanks for all your great entries! It was so important to add an element of randomness to the winners (thanks random.org) because it would have been so hard to choose the best one.

So with a little help we do have a winner! Three winners, in fact – and all three are from different countries.

We also had some great explanations, although I should say that I only took the images into consideration, not the text below them.

My Migraine Sketches

First prize goes to Debbie Johnson from Chicago, IL, USA! Her entry was entitled My Migraine Sketches. I love her picture. At first it looks like nothing… some doodles… then the more you look the more descriptive the image becomes.

Well done, Debbie! You are the winner of the Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS 12.1 MP Digital Camera, the beautiful hardcover book Migraine Expressions: A Creative Journey Through Life With Migraine, and a t-shirt from the Migraine Research Foundation!

The second prize goes to Cat from London, England UK. Her entry is The Migraine Beast. She gives a simple but powerful image of an oncoming migraine attack. Click the link to see the image and Cat’s explanation.

Cat will receive the a US$20 gift certificate for amazon.com, and a copy of Migraine Expressions: A Creative Journey Through Life With Migraine.

Last but not least, our 3rd place winner is "the girl with the migraines" by Nicole W. of Ontario, Canada.

I have to admit, this was one of the simplest and yet most striking of all the entries. Add the title of the image, and you can see a woman who is being labeled and yet feels powerless to do anything about it due to the oppressive symptoms of migraine.

Nicole will also receive a copy of Migraine Expressions: A Creative Journey Through Life With Migraine.

All three winners need to send me their full names, addresses and phone numbers (none of which will be published) so that I can send them their prizes as soon as possible.

There are just a few more days to enter the Express Yourself! Contest. The contest is open until the end of the day on Wednesday.

I’ve already talked about the very cool compact camera that I’ll be giving away. But don’t forget – there’s more!

First of all, the Migraine Research Foundation (which this site supports) has donated a t-shirt for the winner. And remember, if we have 50 or more entries, US$200 will be donated to the foundation.

But there’s more still! The winner (and if there are 20 or more entries – the winners – will also receive a copy of Migraine Expressions: A Creative Journey Through Life With Migraine! This is a beautiful hardcover book of migraine art and poetry that will change the way you and your friends and family view migraine.

CNET put the PowerShot ELPH 300 HS as #2 on their list of the 10 best. They complimented it because of its very small size. This from the CNET review:

We talk about a lot of items here at Headache and Migraine News that we think will be useful to someone. We’ve talked about medications and supplements, machines, movies, sunglasses, and even water bottles and pillows!

Sometimes people have sent me products to review – and you’re welcome to do that (just contact me). However, today I want to talk about another great way to promote your product – give it away!

That’s right, I’m looking for companies who would like to give away their products for contests and give-aways here at Headache and Migraine News. Obviously prescription meds aren’t what I’m looking for, but there are plenty of other possibilities. The main rule here is that they have to be useful to someone with chronic headache or migraine or cluster headache.

For example, what about naturally and gently scented soaps? How about a supplement (have to be careful here – no "cures" please, and I’ll need something from a reputable source)? Or a biofeedback device? Or a special kind of ice pack? A good quality book? Even a special water bottle, or quality food product would be great. Preference given to items specifically designed for headache or migraine sufferers.

Obviously I will be picky. We don’t give away junk here. I’m looking for quality products. And in some cases I will need to have personal experience with it as well, so I know it’s of a high quality level.

Why would you want to give something away?

Haven’t you heard that to give is better than to receive? It’s great just to help people – for free! And I know that many of those who create these products really do want to help.

But there’s another reason – exposure for your product. In a contest or give away, your product is likely to be mentioned several times – on Twitter, Facebook, on this site, and in our free ezine. So we’re talking about tens of thousands of people – including over 13,000 "Likes" on Facebook and over 10,000 subscribers to our ezine.

So you can help people in two ways – give some one a free high quality product, and give others a chance to know about it and purchase it! And helping people is what we’re all about – by fighting headache and migraine. It’s about time we fought back, isn’t it?

Hi everyone!

This is a rare, more personal post – just to let you know I’m still here. I’m sorry that I haven’t posted more lately. Actually, I have a growing list of things that I’m just about ready to post – but between life and health (I mean lack of) I haven’t been able to get to them. (None of you ever have times like that of course)

We’re still posting articles on Twitter and Facebook, and there are lots of great discussions going on here and there – so please join in! And remember, there is a contest that is coming to a close – be sure to enter while you still can!

And stay tuned – I’ll try to get those posts up in the next week or two and we’ll get rolling again.

1% Thursday: On Hiatus

Thank you all so much for your encouraging comments regarding 1% Thursday, which has been running since May 2009. It’s been great to hear your comments and ideas, and also to hear that the tips have been a help!

There have now been about 25 months of 1% Thursdays, which translates into almost 90 tips. I’m going to be taking a break from the weekly entries for the time being.

Instead, I will occasionally post a question for you to answer – either here or on Facebook or Twitter! This will give you all a chance to offer your own tips on various topics.

Also, I may once in a while point you to an earlier 1% Thursday, since I know we have many new visitors here.

Thanks again for your support! I hope you’ll continue to find clear, timely, practical information here at Headache and Migraine News.
