I have found a remedy that works and it has saved my life! Not sure you can call it a "folk remedy" persay, because it's a product out on the market now, but the active ingredient is wild guava leaf exctract. I used to get migraines every month (along with my menstrul cycle, lovely), usually about 2-3 days before, but I've started taking Drinkin' Mate (wild guava leaf) every day and haven't had a migraine for 4 months! I used to take Imitrex and Lortabs when I got migraines, and the last time I had one it lasted for 7 days - I had to have a blood test to make sure my liver wasn't being destroyed, and it was. My liver enzyme levels were "critical" but it was either take my meds or suffer the pain. I'm so excited about this product - I take Drinkin' Mate every day (it's effervescent so no pills to swallow), and in addition to not having migraines every month for the first time in years, it helps with the regular headaches I get. I keep it in my purse at all times! It's being marketed as a hangover preventative (it works for that, too) but I read an article about the product and a doctor in it mentioned migraines, so I decided to give it a try. I'm involved in a preliminary study for the migraine aspect of the product, and so far, so good. I'd encourage everyone who suffers from both headaches and migraines to try it.
