New Free Resource for Doctors: Primary Care Migraine
Recently we were talking about a study that suggested that doctors want to help migraine and headache patients more, but still lack the tools. The National Headache Foundation is working to bridge the gap by providing a new free training tool for doctors – Primary Care Migraine.
Primary Care Migraine is a set of training modules and tools to quickly get doctors up to speed on the latest migraine research. Here’s what Tom Dabertin, Executive Director of the National Headache Foundation, had to say about the program:
NHF seeks to offer cutting-edge educational training and tools to help practitioners achieve the highest levels of diagnosis and treatment for patients experiencing migraine disease and headache disorders. The peer-reviewed program focuses on diagnosis, secondary headache, acute therapy, and prevention and was just developed with the latest science and treatments.

The program is especially for “any clinician with interest in education on migraine, including primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, emergency room physicians, and pediatricians.” It is free, but registration is required. Once you’re registered, you can access the modules (there are currently 4, just 30 minutes long), and the other tools and information. You can also download the app, to have the information handy on your phone or tablet.
There are even posters that you can print out to help explain various concepts to your patients.
Although doctors who focus a lot on migraine patients will be left wanting more, this is a great introduction, especially if your knowledge is a few years behind. Check out the program here, or give this link to your doctor:
