Vestibular and vertiginous - say that 5 times fast! :)

We'll see what happens as doctors continue to try to figure out how to classify these types of migraine. One big differentiating factor is whether or not headache is one of the symptoms, though some people can have aura sometimes and headache sometimes.

Traditionally beta blockers have been avoided for basilar type migraine, but that is being rethought by some. I think we're going to learn a lot about basilar type migraine in the next few years.

Vestibular migraine is a confusing term..many people are now using vertiginous migraine. It is often first thought to be benign positional vertigo because at times the vertigo occurs outside the headache phase.

Generally most people respond to a low dose of a calcium channel blocker, a beta blocker or a TCA such as Elavil and the response is dose related. The first two classes of drugs also work well for basilar type migraine.
