What do you think? The Shared Pain Bracelet
It’s only in the design stage. But it’s an intriguing idea…
The person with chronic pain can wear the bracelet, and the bracelet actually shows the level of pain that the person is dealing with. No, it’s not reading your mind, you do have to set it.
What do you think? Would you like to sometimes be able to have a silent testimony to your invisible pain?
But there’s more – you can also give a friend an "empathy bracelet". It can pick up signals from the first bracelet, and it shows the same level of pain as a reminder to your friend. Then they can empathize – or perhaps pray, or babysit the kids, or whatever. 🙂
I would love to hear your thoughts – and the designer would too! So feel free to leave a comment here, and there, at the blog of the designer (who hails from Albany, CA, USA).
And there’s more – she’s also looking for people who would be willing to participate in a trial of the Shared Pain Bands (a simplified version, not the electronic version… just to see how the idea works). Click the links below to learn more…

SUCH a great idea! My only concern for use on headache/migraine patients is, if it is lit, that could turn into a cause of more pain. You would maybe need a way to dim the lights or make them somehow more gentle…
But PLEASE!!! We need this so badly! I will be one of the first to buy it, so hurry up! 😉
And as testers go, my family and I would be overjoyed to test out your idea; it could help our family interactions and understandings of eachother and of my pain to rise to a new, healthier and happier level.

I think its an interesting idea, but Make sure magnents are NOT used as they can affect shunts and many of us with IIH (Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension) have shunts.
I would be willing to test this out for you. I have IIH, migraines, and asthma. Have lived with a constant headache for nearly 4 years now. Have a VP shunt which is saving my vision (IIH makes you go blind overtime) but has done nothing for my headaches. Constant pain is a bummer and hard to explain, especially when you “don’t look sick”… Great idea!

This might be one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard. I may get daily migraines, but I’m not a victim and I don’t need others to suffer with me. How selfish can one get.

At first I thought it was dumb. but then i remembered my BF of 7 years broke up with me and starting packing his stuff to move out on a morning I had a severe migraine. I spent half the day trying to sleep off my migraine in my car. He’s a good guy and would have at least waited a day if he knew I woke up with a migraine that bad. I get tired of constantly have to say I have a migraine today and it is this intensity. i am nit a victim. I am just tired of people asking me everyday, How’s your head. and if I have a headache they want to know “how bad is it”, and i am tired of trying to explain to them.

I love this! I know people in my life would like to know how I’m feeling without having to ask, and then like you said, they could know when it was a good time to offer to help out with things like babysitting or cooking a meal or just not asking me to do stuff for them.

I think this is a great idea. I think it will also help the doctors to see the pain it causes when we get the migraines. An excellent way to show that its not just a headache, because migraines are so much more than that. I wouldn’t wish migraines on my worst enemy (well maybe sometime…lol ), but seriously , what a great way to let people know how you are feeling. I would right in line behind Kristen. I hope this idea pans out !!

Personally, I’d just love a simple silicone bracelet (the 1″ kind) that says “Migraine, a disease, not a headache”. I don’t need people to know when/how much my head hurts. I just want them to realize that Migraine is a real neurological disease, not a psychosomatic illness or me just being sensitive or dainty.

I don’t think there needs to be a pain indicator, because we already know how much pain we are in. Those who do not suffer from migraines have no clue as to how much pain we are in. How it feels to have a migraine last for weeks and months. Information needs to be published; that migraines are real, that they can pass down the family tree, it isn’t just our period, that the weather can effect us, foods and drinks trigger us, smells and sounds effect us, bright lights and many other things make our life H*ll. I like the idea of a colored band, just for migraine suffers, to buy and have to money go to migraine research or awareness. I hate to go places anymore, because woman and men bath themselves in perfume or colonge. I know it is my illness, but others should know that they can cause others to suffer.
Employers make changes for other disabilities, they should consider that the work place can be a cause to trigger our migraines. I am all for migraine awareness. I think the band should be black and red. Black because that is where most of us have to hide. Red because that stands for pain.

All jewelry comes off when I have a migraine. Wouldn’t work for me.
