1% Thursday: Maintain Routines
We’ve talked before about the importance of regular schedules – particularly eating and sleeping schedules – for migraineurs. At this time of year, it’s easy to stay up late, drink more, eat at odd times, and so on. That can be a wonderful recipe for a migraine attack.
The basic tip is this – plan ahead and try to maintain your routine as much as possible, especially during times when your routine is likely to be upset. It’s all right to make changes – but if you do it too many times, too often – you’ll be in trouble. Prioritize.
To help you with that, let me point you to an excellent post from last year over at Somebody Heal Me. It’s called Migraineurs: Have Happier Holidays with Routines. But really it applies to any time when your routine is likely to get upset.
Ironically enough, paying attention to your routines will actually allow you to get out of your routine more often and more easily. On the flip side, not bothering can put you outside of your routines altogether with major migraine attacks.
So play safe!
What is 1% Thursday?
Every Thursday at Headache and Migraine News (weather permitting) we’ll talk about one measurable, practical thing we can do to make our lives just 1% better. Usually it will be something very easy, sometimes it will be a challenge. Let us know if you try it, or share an idea of your own – and maybe a year from now we’ll see that things have really changed for the better!
