Enter to Win – A Day Lost to Migraine!
You’re all ready to enjoy that special day – and then Cousin Mig arrives. You know what I’m talking about – a migraine attack when you least want it. A very special day, lost.
Well, 15 chronic migraine sufferers in the USA will have a chance to win a recreation of that moment they missed.
(Note: I know, I’ve been promising a contest that’s a little more global – but this isn’t my contest – I’m just reporting it! Don’t shoot the messenger!)
To enter, you must confirm that you have chronic migraine and share your story. This musy be a story you’re willing to share publicly.
And no, recreating your special day is not about going out to McDonalds. The prize, worth several hundred dollars, will be a day coordinated by Beverly Hills celebrity event planner Mindy Weiss. She has coordinated events for people such as Hilary Duff and Mike Comer, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, Kimberly Williams and Brad Paisley, Jennifer Lopez and Brooke Shields.
So yeah, you can expect a pretty special day.
One question I haven’t been able to answer yet – what if this next special day is interrupted by Cousin Mig?
Well, I’m afraid that’s the reality of life. However, the good news is that you will have a hand in coordinating the event – so you and Mindy can do everything possible to make sure it’s a special day where migraine is clearly not invited.
This is what Mindy herself has to say about the contest:
I feel incredibly blessed to be able to make my living helping people celebrate their most special moments. Whether it’s seeing a bride walk down the aisle or watching a couple mark their wedding anniversary, there is nothing that brings me more joy than watching these special moments being made. I recently learned that people with Chronic Migraine live half the month or more with headaches and often miss once-in-a lifetime moments with their loved ones. In my opinion, this is just devastating!
This is why I am honored to be a part of the Rewrite Your Day campaign to help educate people about Chronic Migraine. I’ve partnered with the National Headache Foundation, HealthyWomen and Allergan on this important initiative. Together, we will give 15 eligible people living with Chronic Migraine the opportunity to have a special moment they’ve lost to their condition rewritten by me and my team of lifestyle experts. These 15 special events represent the 15 days or more that people with Chronic Migraine live in pain with headaches.

Before you go, though, tell us – what day did you miss that you would love to rewrite?

My chronic migraines caused me to loose an entire vacation. I was scheduled to go to Las Vegas with a group of friends for a week of fun (I have never been to Vegas). My migraines come in clusters and I tend to have days on end with severe migranes followed by days of remission – cyclic. A few days prior to the trip, you got it – the migraines hit and I was struggling to function at all. Leading up to the trip I became too sick to pack and prepare so I finally decided that it was easier, safer and better for my health to stay home for the week and recover while my friends all had a blast. Needless to say, I lost my flight money, hotel fees and even the money for a fun convention that we were scheduled to attend. I always think of that as the biggest financial loss that I have had due to my migraines not to mention the good times shared with a great group of friends…

I have had this migraines since I was a lil girl… and they were never that bad that they stopped me from doing things… but in 2001 I had a really bad motorcycle accident and I wasn’t wearing a helmet and well my migraines started getting worse…. To the point where they would stop me in my tracks for about two or three days… And I wish I could say that was it… My story gets worse…. On Dec 9, 2010 I was in the hospital for a few days for chest pain and I was having a very bad headache and I started feeling some weird pains in my left side… my face felt funny and I called for a nurse, who was to busy sitting at the nurses station chatting then to check on me… Mind you I am not the type to press that button unless I really need to and right then I really needed to. So about ten minutes went by and my friend went down to the nurses station and told them something was wrong and that he thinks I am having a stroke. Still nothing…Well about 7 hours go by and by then I had stroked out for about 8 that someone decided to check on me and they rush me to the CAT scan and then to the ICU.. They started this med called TPA… well it started a really bad migraine so they had to stop it… I have now been living with this same exact migraine for over a year now… It is with me when I wake up and when I go to sleep.. Some days I can deal with it and actually come out of my cave (my darkened room) to live a lil and a lot of times it’s so bad that it causes my face to swell and for me to go blind for a day or two.. I have been to neurologists and neurosurgeons and they say I need surgery to fix it where they will implant a neuro stimulator but trying to find a surgeon that will take my insurance is a whole other battle… and after awhile the neurologists give up on me and they don’t even bother to try to give me anything to even help me and most of the over the counter meds I am allergic to… so there is my story… I am strong, I have no choice

Hi James, thanks for your great work on migraines and headache. As a lifelong migraineur I appreciate the info and discussions. Just wanted to comment about the contest it might not be wise to hand over your email address, and other personal information including your health status (!) to a drug company. And, wanted to point out this is another contest only open to U.S. residents. The prizes sound amazing so you have to ask yourself, what’s in it for them (Allergan and the event person)?
