Another Reason You Have Migraine?
So now that we understand migraine and how it works in the brain, we’re busy researching new treatments to fight it. Right? Well, partly right.
More accurately? We’ve learned a lot about migraine in the past 20-30 years. We know a lot more about how it works. And we’re busy researching new treatments to fight it. But there’s still a lot we don’t know, and a lot of new information coming to light.
Researchers in France are now telling us that they’ve discovered a new reason why migraine exists, and the new information is getting people excited about more new, completely different, types of treatment.
Here’s the short story. Researchers discovered a genetic mutation which results in dysfunctional proteins in the body. Proteins are important in the body. They control communication, and do a lot of other work. When this particular protein worker is damaged, the brain can become “hyper-excitable”, leading to the migraine chain reaction.
Not only has a patent already been filed for such future treatment, researchers are wondering how this mutation could be involved in other diseases.
The relationship between this biological sequence and migraine has been known for a while, but now we have a clearer picture of how the genetic mutation works. Now that it’s under the spotlight, we will probably see new treatments being developed to reverse the problem. Stay tuned.
