Migraine Research: Make a Difference
Considering the incredible impact of migraine on individuals and society as a whole, it’s amazing how little good research is done. Migraine may cost the economy a lot, but there’s really very little investment put toward stopping this drain on resources.
We’re talking about a loss of productivity in the workplace, missed work, and a drain on medical resources. Why is so little being done?
While it’s important to lobby your government to fund more research, we know the reality – it’s going to be a groundswell of real people that will really make change happen. That means you and I, regular people.
It’s going to take talking together, communication, sharing information. We talk about that a lot here.
But it’s also going to take money.
That’s why I’m proud to announce that we’re going to start formally supporting the Migraine Research Foundation here. And you can help!
The Migraine Research Foundation
The Migraine Research Foundation has only one purpose – to fund migraine research. They have awarded almost US$700,000 in grants to various researchers. It may be a drop in the bucket when it comes to migraine research, but it’s been enough to move research forward!
And these grants aren’t just awarded to anyone. the MRF has an impressive medical advisory board, with many names that are very well known in the world of migraine treatment, research and advocacy. This includes Dr. Fred D. Sheftell, Dr. Stephen D. Silberstein, and Dr. David W. Dodick. The research that is funded is truly cutting-edge.
Better yet, the MRF’s overhead is already fully supported, which means that your donations all 100% go to migraine research!
Here’s What’s Going To Happen…
So here’s where we’re going to go from here. First, you’ll notice on the right that we now have a direct link to the Migraine Research Foundation. If you’d like to make a difference, click there to donate. You can donate online using a major credit card, or you can call or send a check.
You don’t have to make a $1000 donation (but feel free to!) – every few dollars helps!
Second, starting this week Headache and Migraine News (this website) will begin supporting the Migraine Research Foundation financially as well as other ways.
Finally, you’ll be hearing more about the Migraine Research Foundation in the months ahead! There are other ways you can get involved, there’s more you can learn about what the MRF is doing – stay tuned!
Migraine research has been under-appreciated and under-funded. You and I are going to start to change all that!
