This article makes me so angry. Migraineers suffer enough without quacks suggesting we would fair just as well with placebos. They are putting the stigma on migraines that the pain isn’t real and that we can all be fooled with a placebo. I have taken many medications for my chronic migraines, and I know which ones work and which don’t. I go back to my doctor and try something different. So far, nothing has consistently, so don’t you dare tell me I’m going t be fooled by a placebo. This is the most insulting article on migraine research I have ever read and sets it back at least 50 years.

      Hi Deborah,

The reason why I posted about this study was because of my concern that the impression people would get from the headaches would be that migraine is “all in your head” because a placebo can “cure” you.

That’s not what the study said, and that’s certainly not what I said!

This study did not demonstrate that you will be “fooled” by a placebo. However, the fact that placebos make many people feel better is backed up by countless studies – it’s not really a matter of debate.

You may not be affected by a placebo, but many people are.

Again, the point of my article was this: placebos may make people feel better, but they do not “cure” migraine and are generally not better than traditional treatments. You cannot “think” your way out of a migraine attack.

However, how we think about treatments does often make a difference when it comes to how well they work.

      Hope that helps to clarify!
